In the social impact sector, “growth” is good. It can mean increased funding to address challenges, and perhaps more personnel to implement a new vision. Most importantly, it can signify an opportunity to do more to improve the lives of those impacted by an organizations’ programs and initiatives.

But the opportunity to grow presents its own challenges. How should new resources be allocated? Should existing programs get new funding, or might investment in new initiatives create greater social impact? Is it better to double down on current focus areas, or expand to meet new challenges? What is the best way to sustain growth to maximize social impact in the future? 

At Prosono, building on the principles of agile planning and human-centered design, we have honed an approach to support organizations as they translate growth into action. Specifically we help our partner organizations to:

• Articulate the problem or problems the organization is trying to solve through growth. (Surprisingly, many organizations skip this essential step!)

• Develop impact goals tied to the problem hypothesis. (Too many social impact organizations ALSO skip this step!)

• Identify potential solutions. Prosono works with our clients to identify the specific programs and initiatives that might best address the challenges the organization is trying to meet. 

• Test and validate assumptions tied to potential solutions through a systematic process of program development spanning from proof of concept, prototyping, minimum viable program (MVP) and pilot.

• Build an implementation plan including key operational tools for dynamic cost modeling, program/product operations.

• Develop and launch a social impact program that is specifically designed to address the problem or problems the organization is seeking to solve.

• Institutionalize constant learning. Applying its evaluation tools, Prosono works side-by-side with its clients to learn from every iteration of program implementation, building on strengths and successes to continuously improve social impact outcomes.
